BOOST HOCKEY ACADEMY: A TYPICAL DAY AT CAMP
As you walk through the sliding doors of Queens Sports multi million pound sports complex you’ll hear the music pumping. The friendly young staff, full of energy will greet you and get you signed in and sorted with your goody bag.
You’ll have a bit of time to chat with friends and try on your cool new T-shirt until all the kids arrive. A quick induction and it’s up to the pitch at 10am to get started.
The music is still blasting out, sets the tone for an energetic day. Every skills session begins with a coaches demo, made up of several Irish internationals and premier league players our coaches will show the participants the key skills for the day. Then it’s their turn. Players will swap between several drills with a water break in the middle. The aim will be to develop skills including elimination, shooting, tackling and passing – all with built in progressions designed to challenge all abilities.
12.15pm and its time for lunch. As campers tuck into there packed lunches they have time to relax and mingle. This camp is as much about fun and friendship as it is hockey, we want kids to leave the camp with new skills and new friends.
1pm hits and we have a special guest at the camp, and Irish International has come down to speak to the kids, offering an insight into the life of a seasoned international hockey player. Participants will have a chance to ask the multi capped international some imposing questions that only kids can. Always sure to be a laugh.
Some quick organisation and its back up to the pitch for ready to start at 2pm. Coaches ready and nervous about giving another demo but given their talent, no doubt they’ll nail it. Following this kids are off to practice what they seen. Again, flowing through a range of challenging and fun drills participants can nail down the skills with the help of our fantastic coaching team.
3.30 and a chance to break for half an hour with our mates and fellow camp participants, it’s been go go go and the day has flown in. Before we know it we are into the final hour where a tournament format gives our players the chance to put into practice what they’ve learnt throughout the day.
All in a days work at Boost Hockey Academy! We aim to provide a fun and fast paced learning environment for all our participants. Sure it’s great to learn knew skills but it’s better to learn them and have fun.
